Mary rocks

mairi, or mary depending on whence you know her from makes very nice paintings. She draws some of them from rocks, I say from because as she explains The rock wanted to look that way it only needed her to show everyone else. here's a picture of mary and her rocks

She does commissions from good
photos, by the way (Although on canvases would be
easier than trying to find rocks in the winter).

So If your interested, let me know and I'll pass your info aloung.

Tannahill Weavers on ckua

If you want to hear an example of my work. The friday before last, the Tannahill Weavers were live on Andy's Celtic show. it's archived on This page at CKUA

I operated in main control, while the engineer mixed the live off the floor feed.

Andy took some photo's of me at work So I figured I'd share some with you. this one is an extreme close up

and here's me in CKUA's main control operating the Tannahill Weavers live in studio B

Such as

The Band, Bob Dylan, Bruce cockburn, burning spear, neil young, and Great big sea!

Speaking of Great big Sea they have a new album out called "The hard and the easy"
It's all tradional songs

I shell play Captain kidd A song about the legendary pirate.

Well that's it for the moment I'll leave you with a few of my words

Fall is lieing down amoung the fallen leaves
I ride the trail apon them, they covered all the green
I'll keep on riding forward though it is not what it seems
winters rising, rising in the west
But if I keep these leaves packed down
It will not break out yet.

Fair they well and peace be in your spirit.

my new creation

I wanted a wicked avatar for bike forems and to get one I had to do some work or rather play with a picture

thats the wicked pic I started with then I made it black and white to reduce file size and look good the bike frame went black and was lost in the background so i had to pencil it in. I think I did a good job

I inverted the colour

and then I shrunk it to fit the size requirements

I think it turned out great

Album of the week. Propagandi

Propagandi's Latest disk "Potemkin city limits" came into CKUA's library last week. I discovered it today and I have to exclaim

PUNK ROCK IS SAVED

Ok maybe not but only because the mainstream music industry won't be playing this Album.
This is an Album about what punk always started out being, not an image but a stage.

Wonderfull amazing politicle lines, exalent intelagent lyrics over driving simple music.

Take the first track for example it's called " a Speculative fiction" it would be a great radio track with lines like "And while you may stand six full cubits amd a span, we got a shepherds sling and five stones in our hands and the battle of 1812 in our hearts." is that not great. it's canada through and through, why because these boys come from here. Right out of the praries, The same winnipeg that gave us Randy Bachman! Of course you won't hear it because it's got a few of those forign words such as "we'll never Capitulate. We'll take the whole F*&King world down!" though you might still hear it on Public radio because we (CJSR, CKUA) can.

The bio we got for the Album is short and sweet about a quarter of a page and includes such qoutables as "41 minutes of new [songs] about planet earth from three people who just can't believe they have to be here."

It is going to hit your local indi record stores on the 18th of October give it a listen you'l be glad you did.

Punk's not dead but the mainstream will Still light the funeral fire if you let them.

Album of the week.

good evening one and all!

Tonight on freedom radio were talking about; poetry, stories, intelagent lyrics, great music, grooves and attitude...and it's all live at the fillmore in san francisco. The answer too your questions is Michael franti and Speerhead and the album is a tripple disk set called instant live.

let's play Everyone deserves music the 1st song off the first disk and follow it up with o my god. the 1st song on the second disk

This may not be the first time you've heard michal franti but it is a great collection of 24 tracks many of which have long instramentals and talking too the Audiance. one of which is just Audiance cheering. If this is the first time you have heard michael franti, you may want to go online and read some of his lyrics. and check out his bio on Allmusic

there is a lot of great songs on here but were going to go out with "never seen a place so high" which he dedicates to all the teachers. and I will add everyone teaches me about music all the time. I'm out of here keep your ears to the air flow.

back on

Welcome to the show ladies and gentelman were back. Had a lovely vacation in vancouver will show you pictures when I can. But thats not what I'm here to talk about. I'm looking to hear your feedback on what sort of stuff you want to hear on Freedom radio.

Do you want to hear more of those crazzy mad Rockabilly cats?

more info on the great scene that is the true north of Music.

What about span, do you want me to focus in on local Alberta bands or do you want me to broden my scope and Tell you about Great canadian Authors?

All this gets my wheels spinning, I want to post Audio interviews online! Does anyone know how I could get a host for those without paying?

and speaking of wheels spining what about crusing, Do you want to know about the People's pedal? about Local criticle mass rides or other bicycle activism (CycleActivity)I am after all a bit of a Cyclepath.

Anyway I am taking requests ideas and listener input so let's move on to the next song.

This one is BC Cherry picked and just peachy. Ok enough of the bad puns take a listen to "fruit pickers (in dubious battle)" off of Ridley Bents album Blam. for those politicly inclined it is a story about communism.

Festival weekend

freadom is the festival spirit, where all the people are fair.

Lying back in a hammock with friends on all sides, listening to the music that seems to fall down from the skys.Foating in rivers, wading in lakes, camping and eating bread...freshly baked.

helping the comunity the circle the fest, volonteering is a state of rest. Get what you need give all that you can. Juggle time and get bounced like a hack from stage to stage. There will be ni isms sex or age, all are equal yet none the same.

I want to be back at the festival again.
________________________________________________________

The Edmonton Folk fest is hapening as I write and I can't hear the stage tonight. I'm in main controll on the other end of the wire. At least I get to hear the live performers. Next year I have to go back to The North Country Fair. it's been to long since I've been there.

By the way there are more musicians I shuld add to my faverite music list.

Ember Swift (I have every cd signed, me and mine always go to the shows, perhaps I'll interview her again sometime.)

Great big Sea (incredable music to get you up and moving, modernised east coast celtic roots)

Kid Koala (wheather it's his album or someone else's it's good...I wonder if he's ever colaberated with Buck 65)

Buck 65(refer to last post)

MC 900 ft Jesus (He was an amazing artist who quit making music because of the busness. May we one day hear a new record by him.)

These may not be the top 5 but there the five on the top of my mind.

"Peace, love" K-os

Fridays starting to end.

"Roaches and roadkill...one day this hiway will be my end" Buck 65

It's late or early depending on how much sleep you've got, Ive got nothing even resembling that right now. my Brain is starting to feel strange... in behind my eyes and I think it's trying to pull it's spinal chord up to wrap around it face. Like a cat in the sun, wraps it's tail around it and goes to the land where the Sandman is King.

Have you ever read Neil Gaimon?("Thought Train De-railed."{that's My faverite personal qoute})

Reality is a rose unfolding and the petals on the outside fall off, float down and dry up and float away. Or they stay wet and become fertaliser for the rose. The brief moment of beauty as the rose opens , is only eclipsed by the smell of the earth at the bottom of the unkept rose, wwhere the petals that matter help the rose to grow. are you going to be dust or rot in the end, for no one NO ONE! is The Rose Hip. Hip to that your not the thorn eather. For the protecter and creator of reality are both uncomprehendable(kind of like this).

("singing a song with a rock in my mouth, no one knows what I'm talking about" {buck 65})

Yep Buck's new album has to go on the list of Great canadian albums. Secret house against the world has reached #17 on CKUA's chart not that that matters it just means that other people agree with me.

make a bombfire set the tinder with maple leafs, and then watch the flames burn red white and at the bottom blue. feel the heat and let the bush burn through. Some might say I have a bad attitude , at least I have one.

o was the mike on well you've all been sailing in my slip stream of semi-consiousness. hope you learned to swim.

signing off now, so that I can prepare my mind for biking under the dark streetlights.
"sometimes I think this pen has a mind of it's own" Buck 65

A bad picture by a good photografer I know

Just a Bad picture of me, at a party.
Thought people might want to see there announcer when he's off shift.

More good canadain music

curently I'm listening to the Head Stones the Album "Picture of health" Bringing incredible songs like "when something stands for nothing", "Cemetary" ,"Absolutely" , and of course there brilent cover of "Tweeter and the monkey man". Origenly by the Travaling wilburys, they turned a wonderfull Ballad of crime into a rocking song of the end results of said crime.

Just another great band from the True north Strong and freedom radio.

If you would like to teach someone how to add backgrounds to a blog (other then just colours) and how to get a picture up by the header or as part of the header, I would apreaciate knowing.

Thats the next step to this blog >>>Style.

All requests are listned to if not played so get ahold of us right here, we'll get back to you.
